How Could I forget...The Lovely, Tiana...and She is a Chef to Boot

When I was talking the other day about princess movies and rules, I somehow forgot to mention one of our favorite movies by Disney so far. The Princess and the Frog.

Madley let's the "No Princess" rule slide big time for this one. The characters and jazzy music are so good that he has actually watched it twice already. Raymond the firefly is his very favorite character.

I don't know how I could forget this movie because our house has had a Princess Tiana explosion. The girls have Tiana blankets, dolls, beach towels and other Tiana paraphernalia. They've watched the movie 437 times.

I've heard the "Almost There" song so many times I catch myself singing it when I'm almost home from the grocery store.

Now when we see stars in sky we think of Angeline and say hi to her.

This is why Disney makes so much money. They are masters at hooking your children with a good flick...and then all the "related stuff" comes out... when the movie is released and your child MUST have it and you comply because you are a Disney Stepford Puppet.
The Disney store takes money out of my account automatically. It's very convenient.

Curse you Disney.

Who wants to go to Disneyland!!!??!!!

...and now for your drooling pleasure, from New Orleans or the Food Network...or both.

Presenting...

Ta-da!

 Beignets (Ben-Yays)

Beignets

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt, eggs, evaporated milk, and blend well. Mix in 4 cups of the flour and beat until smooth. Add the shortening, and then the remaining 3 cups of flour. Cover and chill for up to 24 hours.
  2. Roll out dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 2 1/2 inch squares. Fry in 360 degree F (180 degrees C) hot oil. If beignets do not pop up, oil is not hot enough. Drain onto paper towels.
  3. Shake confectioners' sugar on hot beignets. Serve warm.
